Dos & Don’ts to Care for New Marble Bathroom Counter Tops

Your dream bathroom remodel is complete, and you just love your new marble bathroom counter tops! So we, at The Gallery of Stone, serving the Clermont-Orlando area of Florida, would like to share 3 important marble care do’s and 3 equally important don’ts to keep your bathroom counter tops looking their best.

DO:

  1. Clean Surfaces with a Soft Cloth or Sponge: The only cleaning agents you should use regularly are a specially formulated stone cleaner and hot water.
  2. Immediately Blot Spills Up: Marble is a lot more sensitive to acidic substances, such as coffee, wine, and toiletry products, than other types of stone. If not cleaned up quickly, these products can dull the surface and cause stains.
  3. Put Toiletry Products in a Tray: A decorative tray for toiletries can look very attractive as part of your bathroom design, and it will protect your marble-covered vanities from the damaging substances contained in many toiletry products.

DON’T:

  1. Use Store-Bought, Generic Cleaning Products: These contain alkalis, acids and other chemicals that can damage and dull marble bathroom counter tops or degrade the sealant, which renders the stone vulnerable to staining.
  2. Stand or Sit on Your Marble Bathroom Counter Tops: Unlike laminate, marble is not flexible, and it doesn’t have a plywood backing. Therefore, too much weight in one place could result in a crack.
  3. Use Ammonia, Vinegar, Orange or Lemon Juice to Clean: As already mentioned, hot water and a sponge are all you need on a daily basis. Once a week, use a recommended stone cleaner.
